Good afternoon, Chair O’Quin and the Capital Planning Committee—
I’m looking forward to continuing our work on Haywood County’s facility and infrastructure planning at our meeting tomorrow, April 6.
I also wanted to share the photo I took at our March meeting with representatives from the Renaissance Group—Barry Allmon, Sal Feraci, and Michael Terry. We appreciated their overview of the proposal, as well as the next steps toward developing a comprehensive facility plan for Haywood County.
As an interesting aside, I recently came across an old news clipping (attached). It appears that Haywood County had identified a list of priority projects as far back as 1933. The article references efforts likely associated with the New Deal and the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression—a reminder that the kind of intentional capital planning we’re undertaking today has long been essential to Haywood County’s preservation and progress.
Best regards,
Sharon Hayes
